The fires are out here in Santa Clarita and everyone is back to their regular routine. But this was a reminder to all of us that we must think about what to do when faced with an emergency. What would you do differently next time?
If you had only minutes to get out of your home safely, what would you take with you? Family members and pets are first, of course, but then you must decide which items are the most important and most valuable. Photo albums, jewelry, heirlooms, momentos, and collectibles usually top the list. What about computers or other data storage devices?
Take some time to discuss this issue with your family. Make a list of things that absolutely could not be replaced if they were to be lost in a fire, earthquake, flood or other natural disaster. Be ready in case you must evacuate your home on short notice.
