Despite the high cost of fuel, many of us are now in the process of planning our summer vacations. If you will be traveling with your valuable belongings, make sure you know exactly what is covered if you should lose something, or if it is damaged or stolen while you are on your trip.
Typically your homeowner's insurance policy will cover your losses up to 10% of the amount of your policy, on items that are stolen or damaged while you are away from your residence. If an item is covered seperately with a rider, it may also be covered if it is lost.
We don't think too much about taking a laptop computer, jewelry, and other valuables with us when we take a trip. Be sure to check with your insurance agent before you leave town, so you won't be surprised later on.
