The holidays are upon us and it is a good time to think about safety around our homes. Here are some tips to make sure you stay safe this year and always. Every year fires account for almost a
billion dollars in damages and several thousand people are injured in related accidents.
Never use "outdoor" lights indoors.
- Make sure that your lights are in good condition; if in doubt, throw them away and get new ones.
Check your tree daily to make sure it does not dry out. About two weeks is the life span of a cut tree once you bring it home. Water it daily and keep it away from heaters and fireplaces. Turn off the tree's lights before you go to sleep each night so they don't overheat.
Watch candles closely. Do not leave a candle unattended and blow it out completely before you leave the house.
Use a screen in front of your fireplace. Make sure the fireplace has been cleaned thoroughly before using it for the first time of the season
Follow these tips and use good common sense for a safe and joyous holiday season.
