In 1962 Walt Disney Studios donated a small herd of bison to the ranch, which was turned into Hart Park and willed to Los Angeles County by Hart upon his death in 1946.

Santa Clarita ~ Homeowner's Insurance in case of an earthquake

Farmer's Insurance was paying out its claims in cash when the 1933 earthquake hit Long Beach. This quake was a magnitude 6.3, or so it was believed by those measuring earthquakes back then. More than 120 people died as a result of collapsed buildings and fire damage, and Farmer's was there to help its loyal clients. Poor soil and sub-standard contruction was blamed for the high cost of the damage experienced by the homeowners.

In his Step #5 he talks about taking the time to contact agents and companies before you purchase your homeowner's insurance. Here in Santa Clarita I find that most people have contacted at least one other company before calling me to write their policy.

When you are ready to purchase a home you may want to consider getting a clue first. That's a C.L.U.E., which stands for Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange. This is a database of insurance claims that have been filed by the homeowner at the address of the home you will be purchasing during the previous five years. About 90% of all claims filed are included in this database, and include a wide range of claims made, including water damage, theft, liability, fire, and major catastrophe. The homeowner is required by law to disclose any claims that have been made, but many times these disclosures are incomplete for various reasons. A CLUE report is not free but can be obtained at a cost of under $30 by several different companies. Ask your insurance agent, realtor, or other professional to give you more information about this before you purchase a home.

Farmer's Insurance in Santa Clarita Has History

I have been selling insurance with Farmer's Insurance for about 18 years now. One of the main reasons I chose Farmer's over the other companies was because of the philosophy on which the company was built. In 1927 John Tyler and Thomas Leavey started Farmers Automobile Inter-Insurance to provide preferred insurance rates to rural drivers. They believed that farmers should receive lower rates on their auto insurance because they had a lower likelihood of accidents.

Both Tyler and Leavey had rural backgrounds and Leavey had worked previously for the Federal Farm Loan Bureau and the National Farm Loan Association. They organized Farmer's Insurance to be a reciprocal insurer. This meant that the policy holders were subscribers, and exchanged contracts with each other to protect against losses. I believe that if our communities had this attitude of sharing liability between the citizens that we would all be responsible for one another in a way that would enhance all of our lives.

The Rotary Club held its annual pancake breakfast on Newhall Avenue at the beginning of the parade route.

Fire season arrives quickly here in Santa Clarita and taking the necessary precautions and doing the required preparation can save property and lives. Property owners in Santa Clarita must clear the brush from their properties and also make sure that they have complied with the local regulations.

• Remove any plants that are combustible within 30 feet of your home or other structures or outbuildings
• Thin out vegetation an additional 70 feet from buildings for a total of 100 feet
• This requirement is doubled if you live in an area designated as a high hazard zone (check with the fire department to see how your home is designated

Santa Clarita fire insurance is always a "hot" topic at this time of year. Today begins a heat wave here in Santa Clarita that will make the mercury soar past 100 degrees by noon.

With fire season now upon us it is time to clear your brush away. Due to our drought the rattlesnakes are out more than ever and we are in danger from fires. Last year's Day Fire, starting on Labor Day and burning for over a month, taught us an important lesson about brush fire dangers.
